Kata

The KATA is motions pattern that forms and simulates combat techniques. Teachers along history emphasize the KATA importance and put the KATA as a core of the Martial Art. KATA is and always been an important instrument to transfer knowledge form teacher to student and from one generation to another. The KATA contains health and didactic factors as basic knowledge, various combat techniques, breathing techniques, coordination, stances, stability and also widen knowledge and give a better combat abilities and deeper insight.
BUNKAI BUNKAI is kata application, the actual combative meaning of the technique in realistic scene. Since we deal with Martial Arts and Self-Defense, SanShin-Kan relates primary importance to BUNKAI. In other words we want to bring the Kata techniques into realistic ability. Each and every motion has variety of practical techniques, basical and complex ones. The options are unlimited and provide different practical approaches to practice on.

The Kata is similar to information in a book while the knowledge is transferred through experience to the student. “Ishin Denshin”.

Many times the Kata meets culture and Buddhist elements.
Sanshin: “Three battles” - Symbolizes the relations among Soul, Body and Mind.
Suparinpei (Superenpei \Superinpei): the number “108” in Chinese – The Buddhists believe that people have 108 corruptive desires.
Sanseru: the number “36” – signifies 3 * 36 while number 3 symbolizes past, present and future.
Seipai: “the number 18”.

Kata arsenal contains variety of deferent emphasis e.g. “Zan-Shin”, respiration, “Ibuki” as in Sanshin and Tensho, posture stability, “Tan-Den” work as in Naihanchi, speed and swiftness as in Ananko.
